’70s Style Shaggy Bangs Are Back (Can You Dig It?)

If you’re ready for a major bangs update or are considering snipping those front locks for the first time, you’ll want to know this: ’70s bangs are back with, well, a bang! Victoria’s Secret angel Taylor Hill and actresses Isabel Durant and Dakota Johnson are flaunting this look and we just can’t get enough of how cool and versatile it is.

So what makes bangs look reminiscent of the ’70s? Well, they’re shaggy and wispy, not straight and heavy like Zooey Deschanel’s (cute as they are). They’re normally styled with a center part with the fringe swept to each side, helping to frame the face and adding texture to your hair. But you can also sweep the bangs to one side if you prefer a side part. The point is to have a looser, casual look.

Expert tip: Bring a picture for inspiration to your hairstylist so that they know exactly what you want. Also, you should know a razor is usually used to get these groovy bangs, which creates more movement in the hair and an overall softer look. But some of us with fine hair find razor cuts damage the strands, so be sure to discuss which tools your stylist will use before they start snipping.

Once you have your new face framers, you’ll find how versatile they can be: You can tuck them away. You can clip them back. And another amazing perk? As these ’70s bangs grow out, they’ll blend with your longer layers so you can get away with going longer between cuts than with traditional straight bangs.

Don’t forget to add some boost at your roots with our Volcanic Volume for an even more tousled and textured finish.

How cool is that?!
