Gray is the new black. And it’s all good.
There was a day when getting your first gray hair was a much-dreaded experience. We don’t think it’s an understatement to say that is no-way any longer the case—younger and younger women are getting that silver fox look on purpose. Of course it doesn’t hurt that this edgy trend is totally hot in Hollywood, with celebs like Kylie Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Jennifer Lawrence all doing the gray thing.
We love all the possibilities with this look: You can jump totally in by coloring your whole head, like the bob-wearer above. You can add just a shot of gray or silver as an ingenious way to take your platinum blonde hair up a level. To score a lighter gray on light blonde or platinum hair, you can have a silver toner applied. For those of you who already have blonde ombré highlights, it’s easy to transform them into gray ombré highlights with a little dye. (Make sure a gray toner is also used on top to help color-correct the yellow tones that can appear.)
Of course depending on your hair type and your current hair color, dyeing your hair gray could take quite a lot of prep, including bleaching. That means it would be a good idea to have a chat with your colorist to see what you’d have to do to go gray, if it’s something you can DIY, and what you’ll have to do to keep it up.
That being said, for those of you with natural gray hair—it’s time to embrace it! Your natural beauty is now #trending.
